Psalm 103

Posted by: admin Tags:

My servant David begins by commanding his soul to praise Me.  He then rehearses the great reasons for the motivation of praise.  And you see that there are all these things which I have done in dealing with and blessing those who are truly Mine.  Then My servant David goes on to recount My character in the ways I manifest who I am to those who fear Me.  Then he declares the everlasting nature of My love, not only to those who fear Me, but even to their children’s children.  And he acknowledges My heavenly kingdom and My rule over all.  He then declares that all in heaven above, in earth beneath and he himself are to give Me praise.  Thus you see that for David praise is like a belt that girds his life completely.  He understands that for which I should be praised.  Now you know that David was not a perfect and sinless man, and that his life was full of conflicts.  And you see in other Psalms that he wrote the expressions of these things.  But here you see the underlying attitude and perspective of My servant David that enabled him to deal fruitfully, effectively with all that was negative, harmful and conflicting in his experience.  Do you think that these words were written and preserved just so that you can admire David?  Do you not recognize that what he declares here is also My way for you to deal with your conflicts, your sins, with all that is negative and dark that touches your life?  David commanded his soul and even the angels in heaven and all that I have made to praise Me, to remember who I am, what I have done, and who you are to Me.  This is My way for you in the face of all your difficulties even as it was for David.  But even more so can you exercise praise and remember all of My benefits, for has not My Son granted you all of these and even more?  And has not My Holy Spirit brought these blessings to your attention so that the spirit of praise may truly possess your heart, your thoughts, and the words of your mouth?

Psalm 88

In the other words that I have given you on this portion I mention the difference between the perspective of the Psalmist who wrote these words and your perspective as those who know Me through My Son.  I mentioned the limitations of what had been revealed to him in contrast to what has been revealed to you in My Son.  Now I want you to take a closer look at those differences, for I want you to appreciate by contrast what has been given to you that he did not have.  And this is not only the difference of your perspective from his, but the difference of the blessings.  I want you to recognize that this is also a difference that pertains between all those who truly know Me in My Son and many of those who just know about Me.  First of all you know and are sure that I hear your cry.  You know that My ear is ever inclined towards you.  And while you may like the Psalmist feel at times that you are without strength, you know that you will never be forsaken, never cut off from My hand, never consigned to dark places.  Through My Son you have been brought into the light and I have promised never to leave or forsake you.  You know that My wrath has not and will never rest upon you, for there is no condemnation because you are in My Son.  He has borne away all wrath and condemnation.  You do not need to question Me concerning My loving kindness and My faithfulness as did the Psalmist.  You know that My loving kindness is ever with you, and My faithfulness has been proven over and over again, even in those days when you did not know Me as you now know Me.  You are able to look back and recognize how faithful I have been.  There is no need for you to think for even a moment that I have rejected you or ever will reject you, for have I not declared that you are accepted in My Son?  There is no trouble that can come against you, however severe it may be, that I will allow to do you real harm or to separate you from My love.  You need not struggle as the Psalmist did about doubt of My faithfulness, of My love, of My kind intention towards you.  Does not My Word declare clearly that nothing in heaven above or earth beneath shall separate you from love in My Son?  And is not my invitation to you to come boldly to Me with the confidence that you will always find grace to help you, especially in times of great need?  Can you see the enormous contrast between the condition and position of the Psalmist and what he expresses in the midst of his troubles and your position and condition in My Son?  And while he declared in the midst of his troubles that his friends had forsaken him and darkness had become his close companion, can you not say truly that you will, with the Psalmist of Psalm 89, sing of My love forever and declare “Blessed be the Lord forever!”

Psalm 15

There are those whose outward conduct may seem to indicate that they are acceptable in My sight, for they do things outwardly that would seem to identify them as those who walk in My ways.  But notice that in this portion the Psalmist declares that those who walk with integrity and work righteousness do not merely have an outward display of religiosity, for they speak truth in their heart.  And yet recall that My servant James declared that faith without works is dead, therefore what My servant David recognizes here is that truth in the heart will surely have a manifestation in the conduct of the one who possesses it.  Do not be misled into thinking that those who speak religious words, even those who may quote My Word and diligently pursue religious activities and even what the world may call good works, are necessarily those who dwell in My Holy hill.  My servant David recognized that beyond outward religious devotion one can recognize the person who is truly walking in integrity and speaking the truth in his heart as one, is one whose tongue avoids evil and resists speech that harms.  He is one whose relationships are characterized by the kind of gracious way he treats others.  He is one who recognizes those who do or do not deserve honor, those who draw near to Me or who walk far from My ways.  He is one who will never seek to take personal advantage, but is even willing to acknowledge his own short comings and wrong doing.  His money is not used at the expense of others, nor will he be compromised by the offer of a bribe.  There are many other ways in which the conduct of the one who walks in integrity may be recognized.  But after all these things are considered, that which is the most beneficial for the one who walks this way is that he abides in the place of fellowship and worship with Me.  And it is truly out of this relationship that these good things that are mentioned here will flow.  Treasure in your hearts the desire to abide in My presence and you too will have a life, a walk which is characterized by integrity and by works of righteousness.  David closes this Psalm by declaring that he who does these things will never be shaken.  It is not because he does them that there is such stability and security, even though they are the outward manifestations that necessarily prove his righteousness.  It is rather because in his heart, in her heart, in your heart you really desire to dwell in My holy hill, to know Me, to worship Me, to please Me, that such stability and security is established so that you are among those who will never be shaken.  But consider this: that though a man or a woman who does these things will never be shaken, yet surely he or she will certainly be tested.
