Hebrews 12:1-13

Just as My Son submitted to the humiliation and the suffering of the cross, not because He loved the suffering itself, but He recognized that which was being accomplished through it in the fulfillment of My will and the redemption of mankind, even so are you called to submit to My discipline, not because it is pleasant, but as it says here, grievous and painful, but because you recognize what that discipline accomplishes, and that is what you are called to prize and to love.  For what does it declare here is accomplished by My discipline?  It declares that when you yield to it, when you submit to My purposes in it, it enables you to share in My holiness, and it produces the good fruit of righteousness and peace.  It is when you love what the discipline is intended to accomplish that you are truly able from the heart to submit to it.  But then how will you come to love what it accomplishes?  How are you even able to discern that the hard things you are experiencing are actually from Me and are part of My loving discipline?  How are you able to discern the difference between what might be the consequences of your sin and disobedience and that suffering which is truly the result of My discipline, which is intended to produce that holiness and fruit of righteousness and peace?  It declares here that you are to fix your eyes upon My Son and consider Him and how He suffered in the course of doing My will.  In truth you can not only observe what He did, but you can choose to be motivated by His heart.  Then as this takes place within you, you will be truly connected with My Spirit and He will impart to you that same motivation of heart which enabled My Son to persevere in trials, to endure the cross, to suffer the opposition of sinners.  This is surely the way by which you will strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees, and by which you will make level paths for your feet.

Matthew 20:17-28

Do you say that you want to be like My Son?  Would you like to be like My Son as He presents Himself here as a servant, as one who lays His life down?  Consider the contrast between how He really is and what was really in the hearts of His disciples at that time.  For do you not see the expression of personal ambition, as James and John through their mother requested exaltation, a place of prominence in the kingdom of My Son.  I have told you before that by the expression of their indignation the other disciples betrayed that the same was in their hearts.  And what does this kind of ambition represent?  My Son declared that it represented the way of the Gentiles that was manifested in the way rulers exercised authority.  But so great is the contrast between those ambitious desires and the desire of My Son to fulfill My will!  Here before you is the choice.  Will you choose the way of self promotion, of personal ambition, of worldly exaltation, or will you choose the way of My Son, the way of serving, of suffering, of laying your life down for others?

Psalm 68

You see that My servant David is well aware of enemies.  And while he recognizes that they may be a threat to My people, he regards them as My enemies.  And have I not told you that in as much as the wicked seek to destroy My people, they are indeed My enemies.  But though he is aware of enemies, David as you see in his words is much more aware of who I am.  And he reflects on how I have manifested Myself to My people in mighty works of power and deliverance, and of mercy, grace and salvation.  Not only does he recognize the great victories of the past that I have wrought, but he expresses resolute hope for that day when I will banish all of My enemies and free My people, not only from their threat, but from their very presence.  And he sees that future hope in terms of My people coming in glad procession to worship before Me.  And he sees the kings of the earth bringing tribute to me, and their people giving Me praise and adoration.  Is David’s perspective also yours as you consider how in these days My enemies rise up against Me, against My Messiah, and against My people?  Are you brought into distress, anxiety, fear and uncertainty by these things?  If so then you have set your heart upon something other than that upon which David’s heart was set, for you see his circumstances were not any less threatening than what you observe today.  But in faith he looked beyond the circumstances to consider who I am, what I had already accomoplished in the past and upon what I had promised.  If this is indeed your perspective, then you too can express and live by that same confidence, hope and expectation that David expresses here.  You too can have as your testimony that power belongs to Me and that My majesty shines down on Israel and My strength is manifested.  You too can experience the awe of worshipping Me and being sure that I give strength and power to My people as they look to Me and trust Me, even in the face of the most threatening of circumstances.  This is My intended portion for My people in every circumstance and throughout all of the ages.
