Romans 8:1-18

Posted by: admin   in Romans

I want you to notice that My servant Paul declares in this portion that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.  Everything that flows in blessing, in freedom, in the victorious life flows to you because you are in My Son.  It is your living connection with Him that provides the blessings, the freedom that My servant writes about here.  But I want you to notice that it is not an automatic flow of blessing that results from just believing.  And I want you also to notice that life in My Son does not take place without the necessity of your choice.  So My servant declares that those who set their minds on the things of the flesh experience death, while those who set their mind on the Spirit experience life and peace.  Therefore your choice of what you will set your mind upon is absolutely vital and necessary if you are truly to experience all that is yours in My Son.  The flesh, though it declares here that you are to put it to death, will not by virtue of that disappear and cease to be a problem and a challenge to your life in My Son.  But then by death My servant means that you are to separate yourself from what appeals to the flesh and what satisfies the flesh.  You will find that you must do this not just once, but over and over.  My servant declares that because you have been given the Spirit of My Son you have within you both the prompting and the power of the Spirit to turn away from the mind that focuses on the flesh and from the deeds that will result from such a focus.  But once you have made the choice to do what the Spirit prompts you to do, you will experience the enabling power of My Spirit.  And, as it declares here,  I who raised My Son from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies through My Son.  This means that you will as a result not experience separation from My fellowship, which is what is involved in the death that comes from the mind and the deeds of the flesh, but instead you will experience what My servant declares to be life and peace.  And you will recognize how great a difference there is between what the flesh produces and what the Spirit produces.  It is only as you walk in this way of dependence upon the Spirit that you will really know what it is to be a true son to Me.  The Spirit will bear witness to your spirit that this is who you really are.  And you see that My servant recognizes that this choice to walk in the Spirit, to depend upon Him and His enabling power and to receive true life as a result does not mean that you will escape sufferings in this time.  This life is not a fantasy or an ideal that allows your escape from  the reality of what it means to live in a world that is hostile to Me and deeply affected by sin.  But though there is suffering involved, it is not the same quality of suffering experienced by those who choose the mind and the deeds of the flesh and the ways of the world.  For having been joined to My Son whose life is within you, you are joined to Him who suffered in order to carry out My will in a world that is contrary to it.  And so shall it be for you as a true son.  But your suffering accomplishes something truly wonderful.  My servant declared that the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, and that life and peace is sustained even in the midst of suffering.  This is because He dwells within you and you have chosen to embrace His suffering.  You have a joy in knowing that the suffering that you experience in the present time is very small compared with the glory that is going to be yours, and all who trust in My Son, when He appears.  And the more you set your heart upon this hope, the more you will be prompted to choose the mind of the Spirit and to turn away from the mind of the flesh.  And you will find that even in the midst of suffering there is that wonderful sense of peace and that assurance that the life within you is truly enduring, eternal, and glorifying to Me.

Psalm 15

Posted by: admin   in Psalm

There are those whose outward conduct may seem to indicate that they are acceptable in My sight, for they do things outwardly that would seem to identify them as those who walk in My ways.  But notice that in this portion the Psalmist declares that those who walk with integrity and work righteousness do not merely have an outward display of religiosity, for they speak truth in their heart.  And yet recall that My servant James declared that faith without works is dead, therefore what My servant David recognizes here is that truth in the heart will surely have a manifestation in the conduct of the one who possesses it.  Do not be misled into thinking that those who speak religious words, even those who may quote My Word and diligently pursue religious activities and even what the world may call good works, are necessarily those who dwell in My Holy hill.  My servant David recognized that beyond outward religious devotion one can recognize the person who is truly walking in integrity and speaking the truth in his heart as one, is one whose tongue avoids evil and resists speech that harms.  He is one whose relationships are characterized by the kind of gracious way he treats others.  He is one who recognizes those who do or do not deserve honor, those who draw near to Me or who walk far from My ways.  He is one who will never seek to take personal advantage, but is even willing to acknowledge his own short comings and wrong doing.  His money is not used at the expense of others, nor will he be compromised by the offer of a bribe.  There are many other ways in which the conduct of the one who walks in integrity may be recognized.  But after all these things are considered, that which is the most beneficial for the one who walks this way is that he abides in the place of fellowship and worship with Me.  And it is truly out of this relationship that these good things that are mentioned here will flow.  Treasure in your hearts the desire to abide in My presence and you too will have a life, a walk which is characterized by integrity and by works of righteousness.  David closes this Psalm by declaring that he who does these things will never be shaken.  It is not because he does them that there is such stability and security, even though they are the outward manifestations that necessarily prove his righteousness.  It is rather because in his heart, in her heart, in your heart you really desire to dwell in My holy hill, to know Me, to worship Me, to please Me, that such stability and security is established so that you are among those who will never be shaken.  But consider this: that though a man or a woman who does these things will never be shaken, yet surely he or she will certainly be tested.

Luke 4:14-32

Posted by: admin   in Luke

I want you to observe from this portion that My Son faced both popularity and hostility almost from the beginning of His ministry.  And you see that in the midst of the popularity He was willing, in fact determined and dedicated, to declaring the truth to those who heard Him, even though he knew that by such declaration he would provoke rage, hostility and efforts to kill Him.  Is it not amazing to recognize that the appreciation and acceptance by those who heard Him was so quickly transformed into rage and even an attempt to kill?  What does this mean?  Surely you must understand that My Son was never seeking to be popular.  He was never motivated by the desire to be approved by men, and so He spoke the truth even when that declaration prompted hostility and rage and even an attempt at murder.  Notice from the words recorded that My Son brought no accusation.  I want you to understand that while He proclaimed that the truth sets men free, you can also see that when the truth is rejected that rejection produces greater darkness and greater bondage.  And in all of this recognize that My Son, as it declares here, was operating in the power of the Spirit.  Nothing that He declares in the synagogue or in any other place was calculated as an effort to please men.  Even when for a season the truth seemed to please them, My Son well knew that the whole truth that He would proclaim would have the effect of provoking rejection, hostility and the outpouring of wrath.  What does this mean to you?  What do I want to say to you through this?  I could say many things, but today I want to emphasize to you that you might desire with all your heart to be filled and empowered by My Spirit, not so as to gain popularity and the approval of men, but rather to be bold and uncompromising in speaking the truth, even at the cost of rejection, persecution and attempt to destroy you.  Will you determine in your hearts to be so faithful and so committed to the truth that you will reject the desire to please men, even to the point of displeasing and enraging them?  Will you do this because you are committed to pleasing Me; you are committed to being faithful to the truth?
