Bible Devotions From Psalm 108

Posted by: admin    in Psalm

I have spoken to you concerning patient waiting. I have spoken to you concerning a trusting heart. Now I would speak to you concerning a steadfast heart. Notice that this expression by My servant David was the result of a decision. What was that decision? He declares that he will sing and make music with all of his soul, that he will praise Me among the nations. Notice that for which he praises Me; My love and My faithfulness.

And out of such a decision comes the exultation that I would be exalted even above the heavens and over all the earth. Consider that out of such a decision to praise comes the petition to save, and with it the confidence that I will indeed save and give victory over the enemies. Would you like David desire a steadfast heart? Would you in the face of daunting challenges choose to praise Me, not only in your secret place, but among the people? Would you like David exult in My love and faithfulness and long for and greatly desire My glory to be over all the earth? Indeed with such a heart will you not be confident as he was that I will surely save and deliver? Will you not hear Me in the sanctuary and be encouraged and comforted that I am over all the nations and sovereign over all that challenges, that seems to threaten you; that in spite of what may seem to be defeat and My abandonment, you will know that you can surely depend upon Me to give you help against the enemy and ultimate victory over all who come against you? Surely you know that, these are not just nice sounding words. Surely you know that they are a genuine expression of a steadfast heart. And if so then to have that heart is to experience the very expression of that heart that is manifested in these words. But more than the record of David’s confidence, you have the assurance that in My Son, who has given His heart to you, you have all that is declared here. Don’t forget to exercise that steadfast heart to the measure of what it is capable to bring great blessing, even in the most difficult of circumstances, and also glory to My name.

Bible Devotions From Psalm 17

Posted by: admin    in Psalm

Are you not assailed with the boastful words of men who declare their confidence in the power of the arm of flesh? Do you not hear their proud declarations as they express their sense of adequacy to meet all their challenges that face them? But with this confession and prayer of My servant David you see something else that is quite different. Consider how he appeals to Me to be kept and protected against those who rise up against him. Though David performed great exploits and was regarded as a mighty man, he did not regard himself as one who was capable in himself of meeting the challenges of those who opposed him. He saw them as those who were like lions ready to tear him apart, and therefore he expresses his appeal to Me to save him, to deliver him from those who oppress him and attack him and to deal with them in judgment. But I want you to see that his appeal for this kind of deliverance is based upon the confidence that he has in Me and the assurance that I have tested him and found nothing in his heart that stands as an obstacle to his fellowship with Me. And not only is he confident that his relationship with me is in order, but out of this confidence he strongly purposes that he will walk in My path and will be upheld so that his footsteps may not slip. Consider here that the foundation of his reliance upon Me arises out of his confidence that his relationship with Me is in good order, and therefore in his need to call upon Me he is confident that I will hear and answer. But look at what he declares when he says, “O You who save those who trust in You from those who rise up against us”! He is aware that this same confidence that he has in Me to keep him walking in My paths and to deliver him from those who come against him is not just for himself, but for those, yes all those who trust in Me. And you see, as he contrasts his hope and his sense of destiny with those whom he calls “men of the world who have their portion in this life”, his portion, his joy and expectation is that he will see My face in righteousness and will be satisfied when he awakens in My likeness.

Since he declares that I save those who trust in Me, are you not also among those who trust in Me? And cannot your confidence, your hope, and your expectation be the same as that of My servant David?

Bible Devotions From Psalm 60

Posted by: admin    in Psalm

I want you to recognize the shift in My servant David’s perspective that is presented in this portion. For you see that when he begins it is with the sense of judgment and My displeasure, and it seems to him that the very earth is shaking upon its foundation and My people are enduring hard things and experiencing confusion. But My servant David then begins to declare a testimony of confidence and of My deliverance for those who fear Me, for those whom he calls My beloved. And when he begins to consider My faithfulness to those who fear Me, his whole perspective changes so that he sees My sovereignty and he hears My declaration concerning the nations round about as well as his own nation. And in seeing from this perspective, he is able to rejoice and to express his hope that I who have judged My people and seemingly cast them off by allowing their enemies to prevail against them, I am the very one to whom he looks for help and for victory. I want you to recognize that the circumstances had not significantly changed when David uttered these words. It was rather David’s perspective that had changed so that he could look beyond the circumstances to reflect upon who I am and to express in the light of that reflection what he was confident that I would do. I want you to recognize from these words that the challenge before you is not so much to consider the circumstances and to let your heart be governed by them, but rather to consider Me, who I am and what I have promised to do. And you will see that like David your perspective will be transformed from one of despair to one of confident hope. No matter how often I may display mighty acts within grave circumstances, it is not just the remembrance of those things that will sustain you in recurring trials, it is rather knowing Me and being reminded again and again of who I am and of what I will do. And then you like David will regard Me and Me alone as the source of your help and your victory.
