Bible Devotions From I Samuel 1:21-2:11

When you are blessed, when you receive the answer to a prayer, when you have waited for a long time for the desire of your heart to be satisfied, when you have been provoked and assailed by an enemy or someone who is contrary to you and you experience deliverance and vindication, what fills your heart? In what do you rejoice? Look and see here the expression of praise in the prayer of Hannah, for had she not been long provoked by Peninnah, and had not her soul been in anguish over her barrenness? In spite of the love her husband had for her she desired the blessing of a son that would lift her up and give her the joy of having had her reproach removed, and having had the reward of fruitfulness. I want you to notice that she did not become bitter neither against her adversary nor against Me, but she earnestly prayed and waited patiently upon Me. It declares that in the course of time she conceived and gave birth, and even in the naming of the child she acknowledged that he was the answer to her prayer.

Look and see that she was faithful to keep her promise and to give him to Me for My service all of his days, and look and see that her prayer revealed that her heart rejoiced in Me. Look at her prayer and you will notice that it is a continual recitation of praise and of thanksgiving, of My victory and blessing for those who trust Me, and for My judgment upon those who trust in themselves. Does your heart rejoice in Me in such a manner? Are you willing, as Hannah was, to offer up the fruit of your life and the answer to your heart’s desire? I would have you see in this that in every respect Hannah desired to please and glorify Me and it was not merely her intent to be vindicated but rather to bear fruit that would give glory to My name. Thus you see that even when she was greatly rewarded she kept nothing for herself but rather not only offered her son to serve Me for his whole life but in the offering did not grieve but rather rejoiced and counted it a blessing and a privilege to serve Me and glorify Me in this way. I tell you that I seek to have such daughters as Hannah who seek not for themselves, but for My glory, and will not those with a heart like hers produce the fruit that will, like her son, truly glorify Me. I will have more to say to you from this portion for it is important to Me that daughters such as Hannah be raised up in My house.

Bible Devotions From Romans 15:1-13

Today I want to emphasize to you from this passage the importance of blessing and pleasing others instead of being preoccupied with your own blessing and what pleases you. It is most important for you to recognize that My Son came as a servant to the Jews not only to bless them and to fulfill promises made to their fathers concerning their blessing, but as it declares here, that through the blessing of My people Israel, the Gentiles also should be blessed. And you see from those portions quoted that this was My intention from the first. So then My people who scorned the Gentiles and considered them unworthy, were intended by Me to be the very channel of My blessing to those whom they scorned. Consider this when you think of anyone as those to be scorned and held with little esteem.

Consider that it is instead My purpose and My will to use you to bless those very ones whom you scorn. And also consider that it declares that those who are weak, whom you might consider unworthy of your attention and your efforts to bless, are also the very ones whom I have chosen to have you bless. It declares that you are to accept one another just as My Son accepted you. Consider that it declares that He did this in order to bring praise to Me. How were you accepted? Were you required to change yourself? Were you not accepted just as you were? Did you not come to My Son realizing that only He could change you in the way that you needed to be changed? Do you not realize that if you disqualify someone because he is weak and sinful, that this is not fulfilling the admonition to accept one another as My Son accepted you? And by so doing, unlike My Son, you do not bring praise to Me. My Son became a servant to the Jews on behalf of My truth, so that the Gentiles who were far from Me could be brought near and thus glorify Me for My mercy. If you should out of hand reject and disqualify anyone on the basis of their weaknesses, their sins, their national or social identity, then you reject the ones for whom My Son came, and you in no wise enable them to glorify Me, nor to do for them what is good. But it declares here that through building them up, you live not to please yourself, but to please Me. And all that you need to do this is granted to you. The only thing that might stand in the way is your unwillingness to make the choice to please Me and to please your neighbor rather than to please yourself. Surely, My son and My daughter, as My Son dwells within your heart, He who did not please Himself will enable you to do the same.
