Psalm 103

Posted by: admin    in Psalm

My servant David begins by commanding his soul to praise Me.  He then rehearses the great reasons for the motivation of praise.  And you see that there are all these things which I have done in dealing with and blessing those who are truly Mine.  Then My servant David goes on to recount My character in the ways I manifest who I am to those who fear Me.  Then he declares the everlasting nature of My love, not only to those who fear Me, but even to their children’s children.  And he acknowledges My heavenly kingdom and My rule over all.  He then declares that all in heaven above, in earth beneath and he himself are to give Me praise.  Thus you see that for David praise is like a belt that girds his life completely.  He understands that for which I should be praised.  Now you know that David was not a perfect and sinless man, and that his life was full of conflicts.  And you see in other Psalms that he wrote the expressions of these things.  But here you see the underlying attitude and perspective of My servant David that enabled him to deal fruitfully, effectively with all that was negative, harmful and conflicting in his experience.  Do you think that these words were written and preserved just so that you can admire David?  Do you not recognize that what he declares here is also My way for you to deal with your conflicts, your sins, with all that is negative and dark that touches your life?  David commanded his soul and even the angels in heaven and all that I have made to praise Me, to remember who I am, what I have done, and who you are to Me.  This is My way for you in the face of all your difficulties even as it was for David.  But even more so can you exercise praise and remember all of My benefits, for has not My Son granted you all of these and even more?  And has not My Holy Spirit brought these blessings to your attention so that the spirit of praise may truly possess your heart, your thoughts, and the words of your mouth?

Psalm 66

Posted by: admin    in Psalm

As you read these words you might think that the appreciation of who I am and what I have done that is the substance of the exhortation of the Psalmist is the basis and the foundation for all that he declares about My refining work and My great deliverances, both for My people and for him as an individual.  But I want you to see that the praise and the recognition of My greatness and the confident expectation that all the earth will one day praise My name is not that which came first, but it is the result of the dealings, the refining process that he mentions in the following words.  It was this refining process through which My people were brought that enabled them not only to come to worship and praise Me, but also to come to the place where their desire as well as their expectation was that all the earth should praise My name.       In several of My Words to you on this passage I asked if your heart was inclined so to praise Me, and if My works had stirred you to want not only to praise Me yourself, but that others should come and praise Me.  But I want you to see that without that confidence expressed by the Psalmist that I keep you in life, that I preserve your foot from slipping, and that I try you in order to refine you and to bring you into that place of abundance, that without this process, the great desire expressed for praising Me and for others also to join in that praise would surely not come about.  So why am I emphasizing this to you after all the other things that I have said to you through this Psalm?  It is because I want you to see and appreciate first of all that the trials, the hard experiences through which you and all of those who trust Me must pass are the very means by which you are able to come to that place where you deeply desire to make My praise glorious, and also to desire that all the earth will sing praises to Me.  Is that your present passion?  How deep is it rooted into your hearts so that, as it were, it is the frame of your life?  Yes, even so that you will meet every circumstance with this exuberant praise, and you will unceasingly encourage others to do the same.  Since that praise will be the genuine expression of your heart, you will surely desire that others will praise Me, will shout joyfully, sing My glory and declare My wondrous works.  So do you not understand that it is the refining process that brings you to the place where your heart will continually be filled with the desire to make My praise glorious?

Trials, Praise

Posted by: admin    in Psalm

There are some things which the Psalmist expresses here that you need never say.  You have rightly discerned if you recognize that what I have done for you through My Son and what I have revealed to you by My Spirit grants you blessings and privileges that he did not know.  When he cries out, “When shall I come and appear before God”, it was because for him that could only come about when he was in Jerusalem and could come to My house.  But My Son declared that the day has come when those who worship Me would not be limited to a place, a physical location, but they who worship Me in spirit and in truth would worship Me wherever they happen to be.  And so you need not raise such a question, for you by virtue of what I have done for you in My Son can appear before Me at any time and any place.  The Psalmist was challenged and provoked to tears and mourning as those who were his adversaries reviled him with the words, “Where is your God”?  But you know where I am.  You know that I dwell within your heart by faith.  You know that I have promised never to leave you or forsake you.  Since these things are true, you know that you are not obligated to prove anything to those who scornfully challenge you with words like those that say, “Where is your God”?   There is an important message for you nevertheless in the words of the Psalmist.  For even though great things have been secured for you in My Son, there are times when the circumstances of your life become overwhelming, when it may seem that I am not near, when it may seem that those who attack you and speak scornfully of your faith in Me are having their way.  When these things begin to bring your soul into despair, notice that in spite of all that seems against him, in spite of all that seems to say that I am not near to help, in spite of tears and despair that the Psalmist nevertheless clings to Me, longs for Me like a thirsty deer longs for the streams of water.  And in the midst of these over whelming circumstances, he commands his soul to hope in Me.  And he is confident that I will again command My loving kindness towards him and give him the help of My presence.  Yes even though you have the assurance that I will never leave you or forsake you and that I will fulfill all of My promises, there are times when you must face circumstances that seem to deny this truth.  And like the Psalmist you must command your soul.  This is indeed an important part of what My servant Paul meant when he declared that with meekness and godly fear you must work out your own salvation.  You see that the consequences of that salvation make it possible for you not only to hope in Me in spite of the circumstances, but to know by faith what is beyond feelings; that I am near and that even in the midst of the trial you can praise Me.  It will not be for you as it was for the Psalmist when he said, “I shall again praise Him in the future”, but you by the power of My Spirit, you can praise Me in the midst of the circumstances.
